Washington – The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has extended the comment period on a proposal intended to improve aviation safety on and around fixed offshore facilities.

Comments on the advance notice of proposed rulemaking are due Dec. 24. The original comment period was set to close Nov. 24.

BSEE regulates offshore facilities that take part in oil and gas operations. The ANPRM marks the beginning of a process in which BSEE will decide whether to propose new safety regulations that pertain to helidecks and aviation fuel storage and handling.

In addition to safety questions regarding design, construction and maintenance of offshore helidecks, BSEE is seeking information about past incidents involving helidecks, helicopters or aviation fuel near offshore facilities.
