ANA provides resources for nurses to quit smoking

Silver Spring, MD – The American Nurses Association is offering resources to help nurses quit smoking as well as assist their patients in ending the habit.

As part of its HealthyNurse initiative, ANA has produced a tobacco cessation website that addresses the following topics:

  • Acquiring better habits
  • Overcoming addiction
  • Getting support
  • Assisting patients in quitting

Additional resources available include a form to track the number of cigarettes smoked and what caused the individual to smoke, as well as links to mobile applications, websites and phone numbers to access other information about quitting smoking.

ANA also issued a position statement intended for health care professionals working in pharmacies. In the statement, ANA requests that all pharmacies and drug stores stop selling cigarettes and other tobacco products.

ANA recommends that health care providers at pharmacies and drug stores receive training about quitting smoking to help their customers.
