MSHA releases training tool on reporting requirements

MSHA: Mining fatalities -- Jul13

Arlington, VA – A new, free training module from the Mine Safety and Health Administration aims to aid employer compliance with incident and injury reporting requirements.

MSHA announced the interactive online training tool July 23, about one year after a report from the Department of Labor Office of Inspector General raised concerns about the accuracy of mine operator injury and illness reporting.

The training tool is intended to clarify MSHA reporting requirements under Part 50 of the Code of Federal Regulations so that injuries and illnesses may be better documented, agency administrator Joseph A. Main said in a press release.

“From the operator’s perspective, it can serve as a road map to pinpoint where they are having problems and where they need to concentrate their efforts,” Main said. “For miners, it will help them better understand the Part 50 requirements on reporting work-related injuries and illnesses.”
