NIOSH issues firefighter program report, seeks feedback
Washington – NIOSH is seeking input on its program that investigates firefighter line-of-duty deaths.
The agency on July 3 released a report on its Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation and Prevention Program, outlining the program’s progress and proposed future.
NIOSH is looking for feedback on the program’s priorities for conducting investigations, suggested changes to the program’s website, examples of the program’s impact on firefighter safety and health, and examples of how fire departments use the investigation reports.
A web-based meeting, scheduled for Aug. 20, will allow stakeholders to voice their thoughts on the program. Parties interested in attending the virtual event must register by Aug. 6.
About 100 firefighters die in the line of duty each year, according to NIOSH.
