Make traffic safety a part of company culture, employer network says
Vienna, VA – The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety has developed a free online toolkit to help organizations strengthen their road safety programs.
The toolkit emphasizes the need for employers to adopt safe driving as part of their organization’s overall safety culture. It includes employee engagement materials on topics such as safety belt use and not using mobile devices while driving, as well as links, tips and existing resources to help keep road safety a yearlong organizational priority for all employees – not only those who drive as part of their jobs.
NETS said extending road safety to all workers would make driving safer throughout the United States, and cited National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics showing that traffic crashes cost the economy $277 billion every year. Motor vehicle crashes are the top cause of death on the job and the No. 2 cause of unintentional fatal injuries off the job, according to the 2014 edition of the National Safety Council’s “Injury Facts.”
