The theme of this year’s campaign is “Ag Safety is not just a slogan, it’s a lifestyle.” The event has taken place during the third week of September every year since 1944, when the National Safety Council coordinated the project. NSC’s agricultural partner, NECAS, later took control of developing and disseminating each year’s campaign materials.
Farm workers face a wide range of hazards that can lead to injuries and fatalities. According to the Department of Labor, farming was responsible for 500 deaths in 2013 – a rate of 23.2 fatalities per 100,000 workers.
