Most if not all workers either in general industry or construction have a can do or get R done attitude, as such, the same dedicated workforce we rely on day to day also feels an obligation to come to work even though they are sick, in some severe cases of illness (flu, colds etc), workers have to be sent home so others do not contract the same disease the sick worker has shown up at work with, we continually educate and train our employees on the importance of safety, let's educate and train our employees that when they get sick, to stay home and manage the illness they have so it has a better outcome for all

Social pressure. Fear of losing employment. Fear of looking lazy. Lack of vacation/sick time.

I don't believe there is pressure to come to work sick - unfortunately I do feel there is pressure to come to work HURT. If a workplace injury occurs there is a practice of pulling that person back to work even to sit in a chair doing paperwork - reducing the occurrence of lost time esp. after an injury is priority as to not further impact site metrics.

People do feel pressured to work even while being sick and contagious because they cannot afford a loss of pay as well as being passed over for a promotion/pay raise because of absences due to illness.

American culture awards those who come to work sick; companies award those with the highest attendance. Many companies do not have paid sick days, so workers are compelled fo work.

Absolutely. Most employees work on a tight budget, missing 20% or more of your pay in any given week is hard to make up later. Either you go in sick or you fall further behind.

WE experience employees who are financially unable to take time off. There is a high resistance to using vacation time for this purpose. Paid sick time is not a part of the benefit package.

Employees that receive hourly wages with no paid sick days most definitely feel pressured to go to work when sick. More often than not they are pressured in more ways than one.

Because most times when calling in the person you have to call is your boss and they will make a comment or statement to you about needing you to come in due to others being off or out sick as well.
