3M announces safety recall on 16-foot Talon Self Retracting Lifelines
Mississauga, Ontario — 3M Fall Protection has issued a global stop use and recall field service action for a “small quantity” of its DBI-SALA 16 Foot Talon Self Retracting Lifelines because of an assembly error.
No reports of fall-related injuries related to the defective products have occurred, the company notes, but continued use could result in the products not arresting a fall, potentially causing serious injury or death.
Action is needed only for products with lot codes 12092430 through 18062730. Affected part numbers are 3101041, 3101045, 3101046, 3101047, 3101048, 3101049, 3101050, 3101050C, 3101051, 3101051B, 3101051C, 3101052 and 3101054.
Affected units should be taken out of service immediately, and users should contact 3M customer service at (800) 387-7484, ext. 5908, to return them. 3M will inspect, repair or replace, and then return the unit free of cost.
To minimize disruptions in business, 3M also is offering users a list of authorized repair centers to inspect and make necessary repairs to units.
