Washington — NIOSH has released an updated version of its free Sound Level Meter app, designed to measure noise exposure in the workplace.

The update includes new information on how to conduct a noise survey and select proper hearing protection. The agency also has improved the app’s help screens, NIOSH announced Jan. 23 via Twitter.

Along with sharing and reporting data, the app has the capability to calibrate an internal or external microphone.

The NIOSH Sound Level Meter is available to download from the Apple App Store. For Android users, the agency states that because of the large number of available Android devices and models, “testing and verification of the accuracy and functionality of an Android-based app in our laboratory is not currently possible.”

This is so amazing! The studies, researches, books and publications about the Noise and its hazards in workplaces and environment are very informative. We have learned and studied this course basically occupational health and safety and its being so obvious that we are getting more closer to the significance of NIOSH. Very greatfull and helpful. This statement, “that because of the large number of available Android devices and models, testing and verification of the accuracy and functionality of an Android-based app in our laboratory is not currently possible”, seems to be ridiculous. How can so many other apps figure out a way to design apps for Androids??? Its not about the devices or models, it is about the Android Operating System.....

Good day, I hope you and yours are safe, healthy and wearing masks. I was stunned to read you are unwilling to develop a SLM app for Android. Not everyone in the USA can afford a $999 for the 2020 I-phone 12 !! The lowest price I-phone, XR, has 2 yr old technology and still cost $700.
