A safe ride on the school bus
Does your child take the bus to school?
It’s the safer way for children to go to and get home from school, the National Safety Council says.
Kids need to play their part to help keep things safe, too. Here are some tips to share with your “bus-ers”:
Don’t rush. Get to the bus stop at least five minutes before your bus is scheduled to arrive.
Stand back. You should be at least 6 feet – or three giant steps – away from the curb.
Be patient. Wait until the bus has come to a complete stop and the driver opens the door before approaching.
Use the handrail. This will help prevent you from tripping or falling when getting on the bus.
Buckle up. Once you sit down, secure your seat belt.
When getting off the bus, walk in front – never in back – of the bus. Make eye contact with the bus driver so you know they see you crossing.
