Dallas — OSHA Region 6 has updated and renewed its Regional Emphasis Program focused on transportation tank cleaning operations.

“Transportation tanks are confined spaces and may contain a potential hazardous atmosphere exposing workers to the risk of death, incapacitation, impairment of the ability to self-rescue or acute illness,” OSHA says.

Other hazards include fires, explosions and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

The REP went into effect Aug. 1 and will remain so until July 31, 2028, “but may be renewed as necessary.” It applies to workplaces in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas and worksites in New Mexico under federal authority.
