Orlando, FL — AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear, the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association, and the Central Plateau Cleanup Co. are the 2024 recipients of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Safety Champion award, presented by the National Safety Council.

The organizations were recognized Tuesday before the start of the psychological safety panel discussion at the 2024 NSC Safety Congress & Expo. The award honors those who incorporate “DEI safety initiatives into their culture and core business strategies through major business initiatives where they strive not only to ensure physical safety, but foster an environment where every employee feels secure, welcome and included.”

The DEI Safety Champion awards highlight three types of achievements:

Culture, honoring organizations that have excelled in embedding DEI into their organizational safety culture and demonstrated their commitment to advancing psychological safety.
2024 recipient: AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear

People, recognizing organizations that have effectively identified inequities and successfully promoted diversity across their safety operations and workforce.
2024 recipient: Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association

Program Innovations, awarding organizations that have successfully used innovation to address barriers to both physical and psychological safety that underrepresented groups may face in the workplace.
2024 recipient: Central Plateau Cleanup Co.

“Equitable workplaces are safer workplaces,” NSC President and CEO Lorraine M. Martin said. “That’s why the National Safety Council recognizes and celebrates those organizations that embrace the intersecting nature of safety and equity. These inaugural winners aren’t just making this a reality for their workers each day, but have also provided a valuable DEI blueprint we hope other organizations will follow to create safer workplaces for all.”
