Augusta, ME — A bill recently introduced in the Maine Legislature would amend state law to allow employees younger than 16 to work expanded hours throughout the year.

Introduced Feb. 20 by Rep. David Boyer Jr. (R-Poland), the legislation (L.D. 618) would permit teen employees to work until 9 p.m. during the school year and 10 p.m. during summer break. Currently, those times are 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively.

The bill, which has nine Republican co-sponsors, has been referred to the Legislature’s Joint Labor Committee.
