This year’s presentation of the top 10 most frequently cited OSHA violations includes some comparisons with data from previous years.

Due to the federal government shutdown that began Oct. 1 and ended Oct. 17, finalized data for fiscal year 2013 – covering the period of Oct. 1, 2012, through Sept. 30, 2013 – could not be obtained by the time Safety+Health went to press. Data for FY 2013 presented on these pages was received Sept. 13 and should be considered preliminary.

Can you provide the top two verses in each chapter where the citation fell in every one of the top ten list? As in 1926.501(C) (3) etc.

Hi Bob. Although the government shutdown in October prevented OSHA from getting that data to us by the time the December issue of Safety+Health went to press, we’ve got updated information now. Check out Kyle Morrison’s blog for “chapter and verse” data: http://www.safetyandhealthmagazine.com/blogs/1-washington-wire/post/9611-osha-top-10-updated, and look for it in the January issue of S+H.

Thanks for your sharp eye. The listing is an error on our part. The third most frequently cited section for Powered Industrial Trucks (1910.178) should have read “Certification of trained and evaluated operators (l)(6).” We’ve corrected the information in Kyle W. Morrison’s blogs, and we’ll print a correction in the February issue of S+H. We apologize for the error, and we appreciate that you brought it to our attention.
