MSHA to host hearings on civil penalties
Arlington, VA – The Mine Safety and Health Administration has scheduled informal public hearings on its proposal to revise procedures for assessing civil penalties.
The daylong hearings are slated for Dec. 4 in Arlington, VA, and Dec. 9 in Denver. Individuals do not have to submit requests to speak at the hearings, but MSHA will give priority to stakeholders who give advance notification. The agency announced the hearings in the Nov. 7 Federal Register.
Post-hearing comments are due Jan. 9.
The proposed rule would amend MSHA’s existing penalty regulations by adjusting the criteria used for determining civil penalty amounts. The comment period for the proposal ends Dec. 3.
