My Story: Sean Ray
Safety chose me. I graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Slippery Rock University. I completed two internships – neither of which offered full-time employment after completion.
I decided to go back to school to obtain my bachelor’s degree in safety management from SRU after conversing with my brother, who was a 2012 graduate from the program. He had heavy civil construction experience and was working on the I-4 Ultimate Project in Orlando, FL.
I completed my internship at Charter Steel in Cuyahoga Heights, OH, and my brother told me they had an entry-level safety position available. I applied, interviewed and landed the job.
The best decision I’ve ever made was going back to school to work as a safety professional. I’m currently employed with Skanska USA Civil Southeast Inc. as a safety engineer on one of the largest heavy civil construction jobs in the country.
