New Orleans — Brian Cook is the new chair of the National Safety Council’s Board of Directors

The council recognized Cook, who most recently served as vice chair of the board, and welcomed three new members to the board – Jill Anderson, Amy May and Dave Netti – on Sunday during the nonprofit’s annual board meeting at the 2023 NSC Safety Congress & Expo.

Cook is an executive advisor for Challenger, Gray and Christmas – a Chicago-based global career transition firm helping executives define and achieve their personal career goals. He retired as executive vice president and chief administrative officer of USG Corp., a manufacturer of high-performance building products, where he led the human resources; employment law; communications and media relations; and environmental, health and safety functions. He’s also an advisory board member for Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business and chair emeritus of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago.

Cook succeeds Elaine Beitler, who served as chair of the board since 2021.

Anderson is executive vice president of operations for Southern California Edison. She was appointed to her current position in 2021 and is responsible for overseeing the company’s transmission, distribution, power generation, customer service, engineering, safety and other functions, providing the safe delivery of reliable, clean power to more than 15 million Californians.

May is vice president of EHS for The Boeing Co. and is responsible for the strategic direction of the company’s safety culture and processes. She’s also a certified professional ergonomist whose work on managing ergonomic risk in manufacturing was previously recognized with a patent.

Netti is senior vice president and director of risk services for Captive Resources, an Illinois-based consultancy. In this role, he’s responsible for developing and delivering risk management resources to the firm’s 6,000-plus member companies. He’s also a board-certified safety pro.

“NSC has a proven record of convening the industry’s brightest minds and best resources to tackle the most pressing safety challenges of our time, and the appointment of these leaders underscores this commitment to drive meaningful safety progress, from the workplace to anyplace,” NSC President and CEO Lorraine M. Martin said. “Diversity of thought and experience is the fuel that propels the NSC mission forward, and we look forward to the invaluable insights and counsel these newest members will bring to the board and our quest to save lives and prevent injuries for all.”
