OSHA launches and extends several Regional Emphasis Programs
Washington — Three OSHA regions have continued or established a set of emphasis programs, the agency recently announced.
The Kansas City Region has initiated an emphasis program on grain handling facilities in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. Additionally, the region is continuing emphasis programs on:
- Falls, scaffolds and electrocutions from overhead power lines in construction.
- Powered industrial trucks and other material- or personnel-handling motorized equipment (skid steers, cranes, man lifts, front-end loaders, aerial lifts, etc.) in construction, general industry and maritime.
The Atlanta Region has renewed REPs for landscaping and horticultural services, electric hazards, and programmed maritime inspections. The region also has renewed an emphasis program for sanitation and clean-up work in food manufacturing and beverage manufacturing.
The Dallas Region has renewed an REP on construction, specifically looking at building construction, heavy and civil engineering construction and special trade contractors. The REP places an emphasis on the construction “Focus Four” hazards: falls, caught-in or caught-between, struck-by objects, and electrocutions. The region also has renewed an REP for cranes in construction, and one for the upstream oil and gas industry.
