FMCSA releases safety management resources for carriers
Washington – New resources from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration aim to assist commercial motor vehicle carriers in identifying and addressing safety and compliance issues.
One of the resources, the Safety Management Cycle Overview (.pdf file), describes how tools from the agency’s Safety Management Cycle can be used to identify root causes and solutions to safety problems, including driver compliance with alcohol and drug regulations or crashes among a fleet. The overview includes a case study detailing how management at a Hartford, CT-based trucking company used the Safety Management Cycle to restore its Compliance, Safety, Accountability program rating for hours-of-service compliance to a level lower than the intervention threshold.
In addition, eight Safety Management Cycle job aids were issued for each Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Category.
