WORKER HEALTH AND PRODUCTIVITY
CDC Foundation offers ‘healthy workforce’ resource
Atlanta – The CDC Foundation has released an extensive online resource to help employers and workers improve health and safety.
Business Pulse: Healthy Workforce includes an interactive graphic as well as other tools and guidelines.
Every year, injuries and illnesses among workers in the United States cost employers about $225 billion, the foundation states. The resource cites other items related to worker health, including:
- The act of presenteeism, or people who show up to work when they are ill, makes up almost two-thirds of the total costs of worker illness.
- Approximately 38 percent of the nation’s working population lacks paid sick leave.
- Health conditions that are related to heart disease and stroke account for four of the 10 most expensive health conditions in the U.S.
- Work-related stress ranks as the No. 1 workforce health issue – topping other important issues such as physical inactivity and obesity.
The CDC Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization that works with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and private-sector organizations.
