ISEA asks: Can you spot the hazard?
Protecting workers is the No. 1 job of every safety professional.
On Tuesday, the skills of those professionals were put to the test. A group of participants at the NSC Congress & Expo took part in a “spot the hazard” activity as part of an interactive presentation from International Safety Equipment Association experts. The presentation featured confined-space hazards that can be easily overlooked by safety professionals, and it reviewed some of the items that OSHA looks for in a successful safety program related to personal protective equipment.
Presenters included:
- Andrew Saunders, applications and training specialist, Honeywell Portable Gas Detection
- Jim Ciandella, NW regional sales manager, FallTech
- Dennis Capizzi, outbound product line manager, respiratory protection and thermal imaging cameras, MSA Safety
The speakers touched on a variety of safety-related topics. Saunders focused on instrumentation and monitoring, Ciandella spoke about fall protection, and Capizzi analyzed respiratory protection.
During the presentation, Saunders showed two similar pictures and asked the audience to spot the hazards. “One of these will kill you in less than 30 seconds,” he said. It was an atmospheric hazard.
The presentation took place at the NSC Learning Lab in Booth 158.
