New app will ‘empower’ miners with safety info, MSHA says
Arlington, VA — The Mine Safety and Health Administration has launched a mobile app aimed at quickly delivering safety and health information to miners and other members of the mining industry.
The app has five main sections: Safety Topics, Health Topics, Miners’ Rights, About MSHA and Contact Us.
MSHA developed the app after feedback from stakeholders indicated that they wanted a more streamlined, accessible approach to receiving information on topics such as best practices and incident prevention.
“This new, innovative tool is another technical and educational resource to empower miners and help them play active roles in mine safety and health,” MSHA administrator Chris Williamson said in a press release. “Even so, the [Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977] is clear that mine operators have the primary responsibility to maintain safe and healthy working conditions and provide regular and thorough training to miners.”
