Acting head of FMCSA out after just 2 weeks on the job

Washington — Adrienne Camire is no longer acting and deputy administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, after spending about two weeks on the job.

No reason was given for the departure of Camire, who served as chief counsel for the Federal Highway Administration during President Donald Trump’s first term. FMCSA didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Department of Transportation appointed Camire to the new positions on March 7. However, Camire wasn’t listed on the agency’s leadership page after online updates made March 19.

A press release announcing her appointment has been removed from the DOT website. A Jan. 31 release naming her as an FMCSA senior advisor remains.

The FMCSA leadership page shows Sue Lawless as the agency’s executive director and chief safety officer and Jesse Elison as chief counsel.

Lawless took over as acting deputy administrator after the January 2024 resignation of Robin Hutcheson, who became the agency’s first permanent, Senate-confirmed administrator in almost three years after lawmakers approved her nomination in September 2022.

Before Hutcheson, FMCSA had gone without a permanent leader since Raymond Martinez stepped down in October 2019. Jim Mullen, Wiley Deck and Meera Joshi served as acting agency administrators in the interim.
