Get involved: Safe + Sound Week

Safe + Sound Week is intended to recognize the successes of workplace health and safety programs and offer information and ideas on how to keep workers safe. This year’s event – organized by OSHA, NIOSH, the National Safety Council and many other organizations – is set to take place Aug. 12-18.

Included on the Safe + Sound website are different challenges employers can participate in to help develop their safety and health program and engage workers:
Safety Shuffle: This challenge encourages workers to do a “job swap” to gain a fresh perspective on identifying hazards. “Take the Safety Shuffle Challenge to look more closely at the jobs in your workplace, promote skill and knowledge sharing between workers and managers, and engage workers to help find and fix hazards.”
Halt a Hazard: For this challenge, regularly set aside time for workers to “identify and rank safeguards” to “help keep safety and health hazards under control.”
Speak Up for Safety: Take time to review workplace safety reports with your employees. As OSHA says, “Safety reports contain the information you need to improve workplace safety and health.”
Lead With Safety: For this activity, managers are challenged to show how they lead with safety top of mind. Select a safety or health issue and take action to address it. “In a workplace, management provides the leadership, vision and resources needed to implement an effective safety and health program.”
