NSC issues back-to-school safety tips
Itasca, IL – In preparation for the new school year, the National Safety Council and First Student have released a set of fact sheets addressing topics such as traveling safely to school, playground safety and preventing bullying.
Tips from the organizations include:
- Students should cross the street at corners with traffic lights and designated cross walks.
- Kids should avoid texting while walking.
- A child’s backpack should weigh no more than 10-20 percent of his or her body weight.
- Contact school authorities or a teacher if you believe your child is being bullied.
“Heading back to school can be a stressful time for both parents and students,” said Janet Froetscher, NSC president and CEO, in a press release. “As the safety of your family is of the utmost importance, parents are encouraged to use this time to have conversations with children of all ages to help keep them safe.”
