Oil and gas safety stand-down scheduled for November
Washington – An OSHA-sponsored national safety stand-down scheduled for next month aims to raise awareness on hazards in the oil and gas industry in response to high fatality rates.
The stand-down is set for 9:30-11 a.m. Central, on Nov. 14. A main event taking place in Humble, TX, is scheduled to feature remarks from OSHA administrator David Michaels and NIOSH Director John Howard. Other locations throughout the country also will host stand-down events.
The stand-down is being coordinated by the University of Texas at Arlington OSHA Education Center and the National Service, Transmission, Exploration and Production Safety Network – an organization founded in south Texas 10 years ago by OSHA and the oil and gas industry.
Despite the federal government shutdown, the event is still scheduled to take place as planned, according to the education center.
