OSHA cracks down on 'severe violators'
OSHA's Severe Violators Enforcement Program directive went into effect on June 18.
The program, announced in April, targets recalcitrant employers who committed violations in a fatality or catastrophic situation or exposed workers to severe hazards, such as the potential release of highly hazardous chemicals.
The directive establishes procedures and enforcement actions for the program, such as mandatory follow-up inspections of other worksites of the cited organization where similar hazards may be present.
