OSHA schedules stakeholder meetings on backovers
Washington – Stakeholders will have an opportunity at two upcoming OSHA stakeholder meetings to share their views on preventing injuries and deaths from vehicle backovers.
The meetings are scheduled for Jan. 8-9 in Washington and Feb. 5 in Arlington, TX. During the meetings, OSHA plans to gather information on the risks of backovers in various industries, determine how backovers may be prevented with new technology and decide how effective these preventive measures may be.
In 2011, 79 worker deaths were caused by backing vehicles, according to OSHA. The agency said it is considering a rulemaking on backing procedures to help reduce such deaths and injuries.
