St. Louis – In an effort to help residential construction workers stay safe, a new website is providing details on fall protection methods and equipment.

Salt Lake City – Under a new Local Emphasis Program beginning Nov. 1, Utah OSHA will closely examine establishments in industries that use equipment or machinery – such as conveyors, drills or saws – known to cause amputations.

Phoenix – As it faces losing its State Plan status, the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health is standing by its assertion that the state’s fall protection standard is “as effective as” federal OSHA’s requirement.

Albany, NY – Legislation recently passed in New York state is intended to protect firefighters and other first responders from collapses of residential structures that feature wood truss construction.

Vienna, VA – The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety is encouraging employers to bolster their safety culture as part of Drive Safely Work Week (Oct. 6-10).

Washington – The National Transportation Safety Board on Sept. 24 issued a special investigation report regarding a recent rise in deaths among railroad and rail transit roadway workers – who perform inspection, construction, maintenance or repair on or near railroad tracks.

San Diego – In a rebuke to behavior-based safety theories, OSHA administrator David Michaels said occupational injuries are not the result of workers’ personal choices, and that blaming workers for their own injuries must stop.

Springfield, IL – With National Farm Safety and Health Week (Sept. 20-27) approaching, the Energy Education Council’s Safe Electricity program is reminding farmers and other agriculture workers to practice safety when working near overhead power lines.

Sacramento, CA – New regulations in California will require certain hospitals to implement a safe patient-handling policy that uses devices and lifting teams to move patients, potentially improving the safety of patients, nurses and other staff.
