Are you familiar with NSC Divisions? They’re industry- and interest-specific groups of NSC member employees “organized to provide those with similar safety interests the ability to connect with others” and “add their voice to advance safety for all workers.”

This month in Safety+Health, we’re publishing the results of our 2023 Training Survey. Created in response to National Safety Council members asking NSC Library Manager Alaina Kolosh for data on training expenditures, the survey is now in its eighth year.

“Workplace Solutions,” our monthly Q&A with experts from safety product manufacturing companies and service providers, has been around a long time.

NSC’s 2023 Spring Safety Conference & Expo will take place May 17-19 in Indianapolis. The event features more than 20 educational sessions – including traditional Technical Sessions, shorter Learning Labs and in-depth Professional Development Seminars that can earn you continuing education units.

I believe one point that doesn’t get addressed enough is that the thought of using CPR or an AED on someone during a medical emergency makes many people uneasy. They’re worried they may do something incorrectly and make matters worse.

Last year I made a decision to move from the Midwest – where I’ve lived my entire life – to the Deep South. When I told family, friends and co-workers that, after much thought, I was going to take a chance and try life in a new state, a common response was, “You’re so lucky to be moving where it’s warm!” And then in December, while I was still unpacking boxes in my new home, the polar vortex that struck the Midwest made its way to my area, bringing bone-chilling temperatures.

Raising awareness of – and providing guidance on – the implementation of safety technology is a goal of the National Safety Council’s Work to Zero initiative. Its mission: to “research the most effective technologies and ways to integrate them into the workplace, provide educational resources to increase the adoption of technology, and foster key partnerships with stakeholders in the field to strengthen everyone’s work.”

I’m delighted to announce that S+H has won a 2022 Folio: Eddie Award, described by its organizers as “the most prestigious recognition program in the publishing community, recognizing excellence in editorial content and design across print and digital media.”
