2016 Rising Stars of Safety: Taking safety to a new level
The National Safety Council presents the Rising Stars of Safety, Class of 2016
Andrew Migel
Age 33
Safety Officer
City and Borough of Juneau
Juneau, AK
“Andy has worked hard to foster a change in culture when it comes to fall protection. He has coordinated an Alaska OSHA consultation at eight buildings throughout the municipality, hospital and school district. Since then, our airport and hospital staff has ordered guard rails, the school district has eliminated work on roofs until a written plan is in place, and the city has begun purchasing and installing fall protection devices for three buildings. Additionally we are developing a strategic plan for implementing fall protection for 50-plus buildings within the city. Measureables so far: three draft fall protection plans and one completed plan. Ongoing training: 22 individuals were given fall protection training by the AKOSH consultants (coordinated by Andy), and Andy has trained several others.”
